
With the Union coal ministry directing states to import 10% of coal to ease pressure on the already stretched domestic allocation in the country, Karnataka has placed an order to import close to four lakh tonnes of the fossil fuel this fiscal. V Sunil Kumar, energy minister, said while the directive is not mandatory, the state is not taking any chances and has placed an order with Coal India Ltd (CIL) for two months’ supply as a short-term measure.
