The Belagavi Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai, kicked off a tiger safari and other amenities at the Kittur Rani Channamma Mini Zoo in Bhutaramanhatti, 17 km from the city, on Thursday. This is the first tiger safari opened to people in North Karnataka, and there are three tigers, three leopards, two lions, twelve jackals, three hyenas, several black-spotted bears, deer, crocodiles, peacocks, pigeons, parrots, and other birds in enclosures for viewing. The Karnataka Zoo Authority has planned to make it an educational centre to create awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation, and the zoo opens at 9:30 am and closes at 5:30 pm. The entry fee is Rs. 40 for visitors, and schoolchildren will get a 25 discount. Construction work for the enclosures of animals and infrastructure, such as a visitors’ road, a service road, an animal hospital, a well pipeline, and a vermi compost shed are under way through the Karnataka Zoo Authority.
