In Bengaluru, a random check of hospitality establishments to see whether they are running beyond the mandated closure time of 1am has revealed that several entities including many in the central business district CBD were doing so. The drive also revealed that cctv cameras in some of the establishments including star hotels and wellknown pubs are not up to the standards set by the government. The cctv mandate for hospitality establishments under Karnataka Public Safety Act prescribes that the cameras should be of 2 megapixels at least and the system should have a minimum memory of 30 days, but the check revealed that cctv cameras of many establishments including a star hotel located near the chief minister’s official residence did not match these standards first. Police Commissioner Ch. Pratap Reddy said they are randomly checking cctv footage of these establishments to mainly look into whether they are closing down at 1am or not. “Many of the establishments were found running beyond the stipulated time cases for violating the timing norms have been booked against them further investigation revealed that the cctv cameras did not fulfil some criteria like minimum memory of 30 days so cases have been booked against the offending establishments for this violation too,” he said. The violations were found mainly in central and west
