Scientists find new material to treat wastewater Bangalore News: Latest Bangalore News Headlines & Live News Updates from Bangalore - Times of India

IISC researchers have found a new way of treating wastewater by introducing a new material- a nanocomposite adsorbent. The study demonstrated that the new material has an approximately fourfold enhanced capability in removing lead ions from wastewater compared to previously reported studies. IISC said "industrial effluents containing heavy metals have polluted water sources for decades, lead a heavy metal commonly found in discharge from paint and batterymanufacturing plants is a major water pollutant and its presence severely affects human and animal health." The nanocomposite was achieved by intercalating the properties of grapheneoxide and uio66ndc at room temperature. The maximum adsorption capacity was observed to be around 255 mgg. The material is reusable for several cycles. IISC said "modelling and simulation results also support enhanced efficiency in lead adsorption due to the adsorbent molecular architecture."
