When a baby was born at a primary healthcare centre in Hosur recently, the doctor noted that it had no anal opening (to pass motion). The child was otherwise healthy and weighed 2.3kg. The condition is known as imperforate anus (absent anal opening). "In such babies, the abdomen starts getting distended with gas.
