The state government of Karnataka has filed a review petition with the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) against the order to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu daily until October 15. They have also requested permission to build a reservoir across the Cauvery River. The government has stated that due to insufficient rainfall, the state is facing a severe water shortage. The chief minister has held meetings with legal experts to discuss the situation and is considering establishing an expert advisory committee to monitor water availability and inter-state water disputes. A bandh has been observed in Bengaluru in protest against releasing water to Tamil Nadu.
