K'taka: Transport dept to crack down on carpool apps Bangalore News: Latest Bangalore News Headlines & Live News Updates from Bangalore - Times of India

The transport department in Bengaluru is taking action against carpooling apps like Quick Ride following complaints from taxi drivers. The department says that using private vehicles for commercial purposes is illegal. Violators may face suspension of their registration certificate and a penalty of Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. Carpooling advocates argue that it helps ease traffic congestion and reduce fuel consumption in the city, where the number of vehicles on the road has exceeded 1.1 crore. However, the state government has not yet formulated a clear policy on carpooling.
