The urban development department in Bengaluru has mandated that all urban local bodies form committees to review dog-bite cases and provide compensation to victims. The government has set compensation at Rs 5,000 for a dog-bite victim and Rs 5 lakh for the family if someone dies from a dog bite within the limits of any urban local body. Officials will visit the sites of dog-bite incidents, and the committees will verify hospital bills and photographs before releasing compensation. The department has adopted the model used by BBMP, which has provided compensation to dog-bite victims since 2015.
