Karnataka is on high alert after the Zika virus was found in a mosquito sample collected from Chikkaballapur district. This is the first time the virus has been detected in the state. Precautionary measures have been advised as thousands of people travel daily from Chikkaballapur to Bengaluru and other places. The virus is transmitted by the Aedes mosquito and symptoms include rashes, fever, and joint pain. Currently, there is no vaccine or specific treatment for Zika virus. The health department is taking preventive measures in the affected areas.
