The BBMP has decided to serve notices on commercial establishments without prominently displaying nameboards in Kannada. The establishments have until February 28 to put up boards with 60% signage in Kannada. BBMP will close non-compliant shops and cancel their trade licenses. BBMP chief commissioner will meet with zonal commissioners to ensure compliance. Pro-Kannada organizations have been involved in discussions. All commercial establishments on arterial and sub-arterial roads will be surveyed.
