A middle-aged couple and their son were denied treatment at the cardiology satellite unit of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICSR) in Bengaluru, as the non-emergency case was not entertained after 4pm. This is not an isolated incident, with similar cases reported. The unit operates until 4pm, but sometimes extends working hours. The main Jayadeva hospital sees a high number of cardiac emergency admissions, making it difficult to allocate staff to satellite units. The satellite unit has treated 23,000 people and performed 1,000 angiograms and 250 angioplasties.
