Infections are increasing rapidly in Bengaluru, even among previously healthy individuals. Doctors attribute the rise in infections to flu and H1N1 viruses, with a significant increase in cases of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis exacerbations. Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) has been isolated in 40% of patients with respiratory illnesses. There is also a 20% increase in H1N1 cases and a surge in dengue cases. The symptoms of these infections include fever and cough, with the cough persisting for 2-3 weeks in healthy individuals. Pre-existing lung problems may require hospitalization.
