An 11-month-old girl from Pakistan, Samawiyah, was diagnosed with infantile osteopetrosis, a recessive genetic disorder. Her only curative option was a bone marrow transplant, but finding a matching donor was difficult. In March, she was brought to Narayana Health City in Bengaluru, India, where she underwent a successful bone marrow transplant. The surgical team used graft manipulation to overcome the mismatch issue and selected the good cells for transplantation. Four months later, Samawiyah has been completely cured and has returned to Pakistan.
