Caste census: After Bihar’s move, govt under pressure Bangalore News: Latest Bangalore News Headlines & Live News Updates from Bangalore - Times of India

Pressure is mounting on the Karnataka government to release the findings of a caste census carried out almost a decade ago. The survey, commissioned by former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in 2015, aimed to ensure reservation benefits for castes in proportion to their population. However, the report, which cost Rs 262 crore, has been delayed for various reasons, including political opposition from dominant communities who fear losing their political power. The leaked findings challenged the popular narrative that Lingayats and Vokkaligas are numerically dominant castes in the state. The government has pledged to release the findings soon.
