The government of Karnataka is studying guidelines on carpooling and motor vehicle aggregators, as per a meeting between the transport minister and carpooling aggregator Quick Ride. The government is not opposed to carpooling as long as it is not commercially exploited. Quick Ride has requested the government to define carpooling as a non-commercial activity and promote it among IT companies, tech parks, and public-sector companies to reduce private vehicles on the road. The platform claims to have prevented 5,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions through over 13 lakh users in the last eight years.
