Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of Karnataka has confirmed that plans to open new liquor outlets in the state have been scrapped. The proposal, which would have seen a liquor outlet in every village with a population of 3,000 or more, was aimed at generating revenue for the government's five guarantee schemes. However, protests from women's groups and opposition parties led to the decision being overturned.
